Following its appetite for futuristic ventures such as the Google car which drives itself, the search engine giant is now pouring $168 million into the Mojave Desert-based Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System. Together with government loans towards the project, the alternative power will double in size from its existing buildout. The decision seems to be more than just another green PR gimmick as solar power is predicted to become cost effective in 2013 and thus a good investment.
